Measurement is Key

I once got a ride from a friend whose speedometer didn’t work... I asked him, “How do you know if you’re breaking the speed limit,” as he drove along. While his method may have worked for some time, if he were to ever get pulled over for speeding, I don’t think his broken speedometer would have been a valid excuse for going over the speed limit. Just like in a car, we can set up ways to measure the performance of our businesses. You can use the built in "dashboards" (or analytics) in systems like Quickbooks and Shopify, or you can make your own custom dashboard with pen and paper or white board. Additionally, tools like ClickUp, Google Sheets (in combination with Zapier) and others provide low-cost ways to create custom dashboards for your businesses. Flow Charts - The Power of Mapping a Process

You may have heard of flow charts, or maybe you haven't. Flow charts are an important tool for all businesses because they are a visual representation of something not so visual: a process. You can make a flow chart for something as simple as getting out of bed (see my fun video  here ) or something as complex as making wine . The nerd in me says that you can make a chart out of anything.    But do you really need to plot your morning routine?                     The most important times to create a flow chart are when:  1. You want to uncover issues to make a process better (read, "faster, more effective").  2.
